Why We Train the Way We Do at ROQ
The best kind of training is the kind you actually enjoy — the kind that’s fun to do and actually makes you better.
That’s the idea behind ROQ. Our classes are high-energy, coach-led, and structured using a proven format: high-intensity interval training (HIIT). But this isn’t just fitness for fitness’ sake — our training is designed specifically to help you climb better by building something climbers often overlook: capacity.
What is Capacity — and Why Does It Matter?
Capacity is your ability to do more quality climbing in a given time — more attempts, more movement, more time on the wall. And more movement means more technical practice, more problem-solving, and more chances to send.
A lot of climbers train strength or power — and those are important. But without capacity, your sessions are short, your progress stalls, and your body isn’t ready to do the volume required to actually improve.
That’s where HIIT comes in.
HIIT Builds Capacity
In every ROQ class, you’ll rotate through climbing, cardio (on rowers), and strength work — all structured to keep you working at a high intensity, with enough recovery to maintain quality.
This format trains your body to sustain effort over time — to climb harder, for longer, without burning out early in a session. It’s not just a workout — it’s a way to build the physical and mental engine you need to climb better.
And we’re not just doing this because it’s smart.
We’re doing it because it’s fun.
Fun Is a Feature — Not a Side Effect
Training with others in a high-energy environment makes the whole thing feel electric. The lights, the music, the structure, the shared effort — it’s motivating. And that motivation matters.
Because the best training is the one you’ll actually show up for. The one you’ll do week after week, month after month. That’s what leads to real progress — and that’s what ROQ is built for.
